Plans to create a state-of-the-art new Health and Wellbeing Centre for the people of Teignmouth and surrounding area move a step closer this week, as the NHS engages with local people on its design as part of the formal planning application process.

The new centre will bring together the largest GP practice (Channel View Medical Group) with the clinics that are regularly used by local people, the health and wellbeing team and voluntary sector – all in a modern purpose-built Health and Wellbeing Centre on the Brunswick Street site at the heart of Teignmouth.

Face-to-face engagement on the design is not possible due to the current restrictions in place, so instead a dedicated website has been launched to showcase the plans, giving people an opportunity to find out more about the building and its detailed design.

There is also a facility on the website for people to submit their thoughts and comments on the design. The website launches on Friday 8 January and feedback will need to be submitted by 21 January so that it can be included in the planning process.

Lesley Darke, Interim Director of Estates Planning for Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are very excited to be able to move forward with the next stage of plans that will modernise local health and care services for the benefit of people in Teignmouth and surrounding areas.

“Although the national restrictions in place mean that face-to-face consultations cannot be held, we are still keen to engage with as many members of the public as possible, and believe that the website offers a good way to reach people.

“This is a great opportunity for local people to input into the design of the new centre, ensuring that the best solutions are in place to provide a modern, fit-for-purpose base for health services for many years to come.”

This is the latest stage in the NHS’ plans to modernise health services in Teignmouth in order to provide integrated, sustainable and easy to access services for the people of Teignmouth and surrounding area.

The website launches on Friday, and can be found at: https://teignmouthhwbcdesignconsultation.co.uk
