Police appeal for witnesses following assault & sexual assault in Torquay

Devon & Cornwall police are appealing for witnesses following reports of an assault and sexual assault on a woman in her 20s on Sunday January 20th 2019.

The incident is reported to of taken place between midnight and 3am on Sunday in the area of The Terrace, were you in the area?

The victim is being supported by specialist officers.

Detected Sergeant Claire Brown said:

“The victim sustained multiple injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to Torbay hospital for treatment.

We would appeal for anyone who was in the area of The Terrace between midnight and 3am on Sunday 20 January and saw anything suspicious to contact police.

I’d also be keen to speak to anyone in the area with CCTV or dashcam footage which may assist with our investigation.”

Initially a 19-year old male from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape.

He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
