Plymouth will be illuminated in November, with a spectacular light-based festival.
The festival connects all of the Mayflower 400 destinations across the UK and internationally.
In 2017, the Illuminate Festival saw parts of Plymouth’s Royal William Yard turned into a spectacular display of light-based art installations and projections.
The event is being organised as part of a massive countdown to the anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower in 2020.
Illuminate Festival, back for 2018
The Illuminate Festival is back in Plymouth for 2018 and promises to grow and bring projections, light art installations from local national and even international artists.
The festival will be a vibrant, fun and inspiring experience for Plymouth’s citzens and visitors alike.
It is the ambition of the organisers and partners which includes the likes of Plymouth University, Plymouth City Council, Plymouth College and the Plymouth College of Art to grow the festival year on year.
The event will also form a lead up to the Mayflower 2020 celebration to become a signature event in Mayflower’s 400 programme; and an annual large-scale light festival.
The Mayflower 2020
2020 will mark the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage, one of the most influential journeys in global history.
The Mayflower voyage saw the sailing of the Mayflower home port in Southwark, London all the way to Plymouth, Massachusetts a distance of some 2,750 miles.
Today, it is thought that near on 20 million US citizens descended from the Mayflower voyage.
Mayflower 400 values
The Mayflower 400 champions the values of freedom, faith and personal liberty that informed the original journey, and which continue to be articulated in the special relationship between the UK, US and Netherlands.
The Illuminate Light Festival is set to light up Plymouth between the 22nd and 25th November 2018.
