Grinagog Festival 2019 in funding shortfall

Grinagog Festival, which last year saw over 2,000 people attend a range of events across Torbay is under threat, due to a funding shortfall.

The festival, which runs throughout the Summer in Torbay and saw a variety of big named artists come to Torbay, is unable to run a full line up due to a £25k funding shortfall.

A Grinagog festival combines the very best of local music, artists and creatives and links it to some of the best visiting music talent around the UK and around the world.

An announcement on the official Grinagog Festival website read:

Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to secure enough funding to put on a Grinagog Festival in 2019 to the standard that we have in previous years. We know that many of you have supported and enjoyed the festival and with this in mind we are aiming to be back in 2020.

However, despite the funding shortfall the event organisers are working with a variety of of local providers to create an alternative plan for the Grinagog festival.

The funding shortfall has been caused by budget cuts at Torbay Council, despite the best efforts from the event organisers.

Cllr Nicole Amil, Executive Lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours said:

It is with much regret that we are not in a position to stage a full Grinagog Festival in 2019. We know many people have supported and enjoyed the festival, and with this in mind we are aiming to be back in 2020. The Council is working with event organisers to see whether Grinagog style events could be staged in Torbay during the summer.

If you are a local business owner or supplier and would like to get involved in the Grinagog festival during 2019 you are encouraged to email the organisers on [email protected].

A full line up is expected to return to Torbay in 2020, further details can be found on the official Grinagog website.
