Get fitter with online help from Facebook Live and NHS

Improve your health and fitness all from the comfort of your own home with the help of our Healthy Lifestyles team online.

Free Facebook Live physical activity sessions are starting on Monday 6 July with the guidance of professionals from Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

Everyone is welcome to join in a wide variety of sessions (for example, pilates, chair-based exercise, aerobics, circuits, ‘Mindful Movement’ and much more) and we would love for the people of Torbay and South Devon to join in.

These sessions are aimed at people with any level of fitness, but the team particularly want to help those restricted to their own home by the pandemic and to replace our usual face-to-face fitness sessions which are postponed by social distancing restrictions.

Elaine Mason, Physical Activity Specialist with the Trust, said: “Facebook Live will give us an opportunity to support people in their own homes.  We are particularly wanting to help those who might be shielding at home due to COVID-19, recovering from illness or who are living with a long-term health condition, or they might be new to exercise and want some help to increase their activity levels.

“Physical activity can help to improve physical and mental health, wellbeing and quality of life for everyone, but sometimes it can be hard to find the right types of activities to suit individual’s needs.”

Anyone can join in with our sessions and each one will provide a description to help people decide if it is suitable for them.

If people want to just watch first to see what it is all about then that is fine – but we hope they will join in too.  Participants are encouraged to send on-line comments and questions about staying active during these challenging times to the team.

The beauty of Facebook live is that people can join from wherever they like (home, outside, anywhere), and no one else taking part needs to see you exercise.

There is a wide variety of session types and everyone has the choice to join the live sessions or later recorded sessions.

All you need to do to take part in these sessions is to follow the Torbay Healthy Lifestyles FaceBook pagehttps://www.facebook.com/TorbayHealthyLifestyles/ and the session calendar and all the information about how to access the sessions is there.
