I have been fascinated with animals since before I can remember (according to my mum and dad) and I grew up wanting to be a vet. After failing to get a university offer to study veterinary science, I transferred my ambition to wanting to be a Biologist and studied for a Zoology degree, followed by a Ph.D. in Parasitology and I ended up in the Animal Health Department of the grandly named Commonwealth Agricultural Bureaux working with qualified vets. The job was best described as interesting but monotonous and I began a career change which led to me working as a Youth Worker for Torbay Council (via spells as a Nature Director at a Salvation Army Camp in the USA and as a Biology Teacher in Ghana, plus a few youth work jobs in Kent).
With my job under threat from David Cameron’s austerity measures, I started tutoring for the 11 plus in 2011 after successfully tutoring my daughter for the exam. By the time I was made redundant in 2013 my business was already well on the way and I had time to develop my online 11 plus practice site https://www.Roots2Success-11plus.uk and add mock eleven plus exams to my portfolio. I developed my website in response to the poor quality of some of the eleven plus preparation materials available and also the difficulty in finding out information about a test which varies significantly from one part of the country to another. The website also gives a massive helping hand to anyone who wants to prepare their child for the eleven plus, but can’t afford a tutor.
The 11 plus is a bit of a minefield and I’m always happy to hear from anyone who is trying to navigate their way through it.
