Works well underway at Torre Post Office

Torre Post Office is currently closed for refurbishment following a huge campaign from the local community to keep the Post Office Open.

From October 2017 and throughout 2018, the Post Office was threatened with closure.

The plan was to move the post office from Torre to McColls Retail Group, 189 Lymington Road, Torquay, opposite Torquay Coach station.

However, the community came together and over 500 letters of objection had been written in protest at plans to close the Torre Post Office.

Support for the local Post Office was so strong that local MP, Kevin Foster pledged his support to keeping the post office open, even taking the matter to Parliament.

The threat to close the post office came about following the termination of a contract with the Post Offices former postmaster.

However, on the 5th December 2018, Torre community received the much needed news that their post office was staying and in fact would be closed for refurbishment on the 1st January 2019.

Today the refurbishment of the new Post Office is well underway and are on track.

The new Torre Post Office is set to open on Monday 14th January 2019 at 13:00.

If you are looking for a post office whilst your local one is being refurbished head down to either the one on Castle Circus or down in the town centre above WHS Smiths.
