Torre Abbey Museum in 33.4% visitor number increase

Torre Abbey Museum is celebrating its biggest footfall increase year on year for over 10 years today.
A trend which beats the national visitor numbers rate to museums across the UK.

Footfall is up by 33.4%

The increase, an impressive 33.4%, has been predominately attributed to the museums new dynamic exhibitions, events programme and also the delivery of some extensive learning and educational activities.

Figures recently released by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) show that a variety of national museums have seen a decline in visitor numbers.

However, here in Torquay, our very own Torre Abbey Museum is completely bucking this trend with its impressive footfall increase this year.

Partnerships to deliver a high quality programme

In addition to its exhibitions, programmes and educational activities the team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes developing local, regional and even national partnerships.

These partnerships have helped produce a high quality programme that guarantees one of the highest class of visitor experiences available at a UK museum.

These partnerships will also benefit local residents by creating a vast array of creative opportunities and workshops.

In 2017, Torre Abbey Museum’s work saw it gain two significant awards.

These awards include the prestigious Gold for Visitor Attraction of the Year and the Bronze for Leisure and Tourism Business of the Year at the South Devon Business awards.

An excellent achievement for any tourist attraction.

Cllr Nicole Amil, Executive Lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours said:

This is fantastic news for Torre Abbey and it comes as no surprise as the team has been working so hard to establish this wonderful attraction as a cultural hub for residents and visitors to the Bay.

It is wonderful to see Torbay’s jewel in the crown being utilised and appreciated by so many people. Building on this incredible success, the Abbey’s team has been hard at work planning this year’s programme of events, exhibitions and activities – so watch this space as there are lots more exciting things to come.
