Paignton League of Friends donate equipment to help local people

At the former Paignton Community Hospital, the league of friends has donated thousands of pounds worth of new equipment to the Paignton Community Nursing team.

The leagues donation of equipment will assist Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust’s Community Services Team who look after NHS patients in the local area.

The equipment ranged in both size and value but included:

  • A bladder scanner:- used to determine whether their is a requirement for catheterisation.
  • International normalised ration (INR) blood testers:- small, portable and battery powered devices used to check how long it will take for a patients blood to clot.
  • Portable digital scales:- Accurate, professional digital medical floor scales that can be used for a variety of monitoring, diagnosing and medical treatments.

Chair of the Paignton League of Friends, Corinne Lowe said:

We are very pleased to present equipment to the Paignton Community Nurses. All of this equipment enables the staff to obtain instant results saving both patients and medical staff time and for treatment to start immediately.

“The League of Friends continues to support the numerous medical services being delivered within both the Paignton Health and Wellbeing Centre (previously Paignton community Hospital) and many of the Community Medical Services

Community Nurse Team Leader at South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, Jill Liardet said:

The community nurses are really grateful to the League of Friends for their very generous donation of new equipment. This will mean we are able to treat our patients in a more timely way and we would like to thank for League for their continuing support
