Love your skin with Seatree Cosmetics, Plymouth

Seatree Cosmetics motto is ‘love your skin, love your planet’ and we aim to fulfil exactly that. We began making soap commercially in July 2019 after suffering with dry skin ourselves. When we began to research what makes a good bar of soap, we realised the majority of the over-the-counter soaps contain a huge amount of ingredients which dry out your skin and are environmentally damaging.

Over-the-counter soap can contain some very drying ingredients, such as sodium lauryl sulphate, a chemical added as an emulsifier and surfactant. These chemicals, and derivatives of it, are actually skin irritants. You will see these surfactants in washing up liquid and laundry detergent, as they remove grease and oils.

It was from learning about this we decided to start our own cosmetic range, starting with handmade natural soap. Soap is something we all use every day and most people are unaware what they are rubbing onto their skin. The problem is surfactants removed sebum (the skin’s natural oil which ‘tie’ your skin cells together), so moisture is lost much faster and ultimately leads to dry skin and related conditions, such as eczema.

Most supermarket shop-bought soaps contain palm oil. We promote using less palm oil in cosmetics as well as other products. Firstly because of the drying effect it has on your skin, and secondly because of the devastating impact it has on our environment. Palm oil is responsible for 8% of the deforestation globally from 1990 to 2016, which equates to an area the size of Bangladesh.

Seatree Cosmetics are committed to making only 100% natural soap which is free from palm oil and other harmful chemicals. We use only the finest ingredients for your skin, which are ethically sourced and sustainable, even down to our packaging. Our plan is to expand our range in 2020 to include more natural skincare products, which again will be made from 100% natural ingredients.
