Jubilee Celebrations at Cockington Court

Cockington Court is gearing up for the exciting Jubilee weekend with a series of events on Thursday 2 June to mark the special bank holiday. Events will include a performance by The Big Noise Chorus, papermaking workshops and open-air painting with Cockington Court’s Artist in Residence, James Murch.

Kicking off the events are ‘Jubilant Papermaking’ workshops, hosted by Cockington Court’s talented Director Marissa Wakefield. Starting at 11am and then at 2pm. During the hour-long workshops people will make jubilee coloured handmade paper sheets to take home, using recycled paper and coloured using plant dyes.

Then at 12-1pm the Court will be joined by up to 100 singers from The Big Noise Chorus singing live outside the Manor House. This incredible local choir will be performing songs including a mixture of classic songs and some high-octane crowd pleasers – national anthem compulsory! You’re invited along – bring a chair, spread out a picnic on the grass and soak up the atmosphere.

Our Artist in Resident, James Murch, will also be running an open-air painting and sketching session on the day. Bring along your own materials, easel or sketch book and have a go. The group will meet at 3pm and gather again at 5pm for a chance to share a coffee, a slice of cake and look at the work created by the group.

Cockington Court Director Marissa Wakefield said: “We’re excited to be hosting events over the Jubilee Bank Holiday, some of which form part of the Geopark Festival 2022. I’d encourage anyone interested to come and have a go. The Big Noise chorus will provide the perfect ambience to the day, and as always, the beautiful grounds at Cockington will be full of colour and offer the perfect place for families and friends to gather and enjoy the bank holiday.”

The Court is a free visitor attraction – family and dog friendly with car parks located close by. Behind the Manor House you will find a collection of creative maker studios which are home to talented contemporary local craft makers. The Seven Dials café will also be serving freshly made meals and refreshments right across the weekend.

The Jubilant Papermaking workshops cost £5 per person – all ages and abilities welcome (children to be accompanied by one adult) bookings can be made by calling 01803 607230 or emailing [email protected].
