Climbing High to Support Local Rugby Charity

Andrew Pearce and Kevin Davies, both 55 years old, are determined to reach the heights of Mount Bute in the Swiss Alps for the Restart Rugby Challenge. Mount Bute stands at 10,000 ft, twice the size of Ben Nevis, and these old boys are set to raise £3000 by completing the assent over a three-day period in September.

Joining the duo will be former Dragons, Bath, Wasps and London Welsh player Ed Jackson, who was left with life-threatening paralysis after a swimming accident in April 2017.

Restart Rugby is the official charity of The Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) and was founded in 2001 to support professional players forced to retire through illness or injury. The charity provides financial and practical support to players and their families during difficult times, such as after Jackson’s accident. Support provided ranges from helping with the cost of medical treatment and rehabilitation equipment, counselling, education and even career transition advice.

As life-long rugby fans and players, the charity is one close to both men’s hearts. Pearce is also an ex-Rugby World Cup official, and his son Luke is an international referee, most recently officiating the All Blacks vs France game in New Zealand. Both Davies and Pearce have close links to the Rugby Players’ Association through their Torquay based businesses, Riviera Insurance and All Sport Insurance.

Davies said ‘I am thrilled to be climbing Mount Bute in aid of Rugby Restarts, this will be one of the toughest challenges of my life. Ed is such an inspiration to us all and seeing how the charity has helped him really shows the good work they do.’

Andrew added ‘We are taking part in this event because we really believe in the cause, the charity helps hundreds of players each year and makes a real difference to their lives and the lives of the families they work with.’

Andrew and Kevin have pledged to donate £5 for every personal and commercial insurance quote given to customers by All Sport Insurance and Riviera Insurance between 1st August and 12th September 2018 and will donate an additional £10 for every insurance policy purchased.
