Women in Textiles

Cockington Court, Torquay is pleased to announce their latest exhibition – Women in Textiles.  The exhibition celebrates women working with textiles as part of honouring International Women’s Day 2022.

The latest exhibition is brought to you in partnership with local community artist, Shelley Castle, who has chosen a variety of works created by women.  The works range from those who have never stitched before to those who have plenty of experience.

On display includes:

• The Fish Hawker Aprons: Three aprons based on fish stock reports from fish landed in Brixham and the tough lives shared by the women in the fishing industry.
• The Fish Hawker Banner carried in a procession
• The Peace Banner 2006 Designed by Nicci Wannacut
• The Coat of Kindness: This fascinating piece had been created by 100 women all over the world and was led by artist Amanda Haran, who founded International Women’s Day 2021 and was completed on Mental Health Awareness day that year.
• Extinction Rebellion Apron: Worn at various protests in London and COP26, Glasgow
