On Friday 23rd November Torquay Museum is being taken over by pupils from Torre Academy who will be running tours, curating their own exhibition, planning events and taking over our Social Media.
Takeover day is run by Kids in Museums and is a celebration of children and young people’s contributions to Museums, galleries , Arts organisations archives and heritage sites.
It’s a day on which they are given meaningful roles working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the Museum.
Since Takeover day started nearly 30,000 children and young people have taken part.
Takeover day helps them to develop new skills, increases confidence and changes what they think about Museums.
Here’s what one of our Takeover day participants said about last year’s event:
” I used to think that Museums were really old boring places but this has been a brilliant day and I’m going to come back again and again “
